Quilpie Shire Council is in the final stages of securing three parcels of land from the Town Common for future development. These, together with the residential subdivision currently being constructed by Council in Quilpie, should provide sufficient land for expansion into the future for a variety of needs.
The land being acquired will be used for rural residential living, industrial development and light industrial / mixed use development. Council is proposing to construct the new developments over a period of several years and is currently undertaking community consultation on the proposals.
Council’s Mayor, Stuart Mackenzie, says the land acquisition alone has taken 4 years due to the necessity to resolve native title issues. “We are now in a position to move ahead with these developments and we’re consulting with our communities prior to commencing detailed planning and design” he says. “Council is committed to planning for the future of Quilpie and sees these initiatives as a key platform in enhancing the livability within the region as well as providing the stimulus for economic growth”.
If people want more information, or wish to provide feedback to Council on the proposals, they should contact Council’s Customer Service Centre on (07) 4656 0500 or go to the Quilpie Shire Council website at
